Daniel graduated from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, with a focus on Jazz Performance. Strongly influenced by guitarists Jim Hall and Grant Green,he has also paid close attention to the noted virtuoso instrumentalists Bud Powell, Miles Davis and Sonny Rollins. Daniel has performed in various jazz groups in both the New York City and Boston metropolitan areas. Eventually he returned to his first love, traditional American folk music. His writing style comes from many diverse sources, including the earlier ballads of Stephen Foster as well as the traditional music of the Appalachian region. The revival of folk music in the 1940’s through the 1960’s has had a profound effect on Daniel’s music and lyrics, including Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger and, of course, Bob Dylan. Daniel’s lyrics have also been strongly influenced by the works of Nick Drake, Jim Croce, Neil Young,Patti Smith, Jackson C. Frank,Joni Mitchell,John Sebastian,Lou Reed as well as The Beatles and the Rolling Stones. The musical legacies of Blind Willie McTell,Son House,Leadbelly,Dock Boggs,Bascom Lamar Lunsford,Lemon Jefferson and Blind Willie Johnson have also contributed greatly to the context of both his music and lyrics.
